Today's Daily Telegraph reports
Quake produces only 'wavelet'
A HUGE earthquake shook an isolated island chain north of Japan overnight, triggering a Pacific-wide tsunami warning and panic but only a tiny wave hit the coast.
I must confess to been asleep at the time of the earthquake... and I didn't feel a thing. I did, however, wake up! So maybe in my sleeping state I did notice it... I don't know.
I started checking my email and surfing my regular sites and found on the SMH that there was a tsunami warning for northern Japan. Wow... that's where I am.
So I turned on the TV and found every channel had either news of the tsunami or a map of Japan showing the danger zones. Occasionally the news services would jump to live coverage from "effected" areas.
This morning I woke up to news service saying that there was "panic", well I certainly didn't see any panic last night. Just a few people sitting in gyms and wavelet slapping up on the shore.
At the end of the day... a big non event. Unless you live in the Kurills.
